Marie Stecher, 92, Belmond, died May 7, 2010 at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Services were held May 11 at Dugger Funeral Home in Belmond. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery. Marie, the daughter of August and Anna (Eimbrink) Traeger, was born January 15, 1918 in McIntyre, MN. At a very young age Marie moved with her family to Iowa. It was here that she attended country school at Pleasant Township #8. Marie married Fred Stecher on February 26, 1942 in Macon, MO. The couple made their home near Renwick where they farmed and had three children. In 1949 they moved east of Belmond where they farmed. In 1967 the couple moved north of Belmond. After retiring from Winnebago in Forest City, Marie was employed by Logan Design for many years. She enjoyed sewing and gardening. Marie is fondly remembered for socializing with friends and family and playing cards in later life. Marie moved to the Belmond Community Apartments in 2006 and entered the Rehabilitation Center in 2008. Marie attended the Belmond United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband; sister Louise, and brother Carl. Marie is survived by her children Kay (Sharon) of Semora, NC, Dennis (Helen) of Lime Springs, and Carolyn (Kenneth) Mellott of Fairfield; grandchildren Jami Dolan, Jodi Braun, Jeff Mellott, Ann Pritchard and Kathy Stecher; great grandchildren Alex, Shelby, Paityn, Kenna, Kate and Emma; and sister Edna Mae Willey of Belmond.
