Mrs. Caroline Sophia Whitten was born March 15, 1880 in Wright County, Iowa, the daughter of Edgar George and Mary Jane Stidworthy Bingham. She had two sisters and one brother. She was united in marriage to James Andrew Whitten and
to this union three girls were born; Mrs. Frank (Wilda Maude) Fairley, Mrs. Lewis (Lea Catherine) Tuinstra, and Mrs. Raymond (Billie Virginia) Johansen. She lived all her life in Wright County, Iowa, until three years ago, when she moved to Indianola and made her home with her son-in-law and daughter, Ray and Billie Johansen and family. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Maude Kercheval of Montezuma, her daughter, Billie Johansen of Indianola, seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. She was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church in Rowan.
