Scott Ryan Avery, 36, of Meservey, Iowa died Thursday April 15, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa of natural causes. Scott’s final act was to give the gift of life through organ and tissue donation. Due to his wishes Scott was cremated. There will be a memorial service at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel,101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, IA on Saturday, 11:30 AM, April 24, 2010, celebrating his life with Rev. Rose Calderon-Khan of the Meservey United Methodist Church officiating. Visitation will be 10:30 AM preceding the service. Graveside services will be held at a later time at the Meservey Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to Scott Avery memorial fund or Juveniles Diabetes Foundation.

Scott was born April 8, 1974 in Mason City, Iowa the son of Darrell and Deborah (Fortsch) Avery. He was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church, Meservey. While in school he was very active in boy scouts. He graduated from Meservey-Thornton-Sheffield-Chapin High School in 1992. He formerly worked at Sukups Manufacturing in Sheffield, Iowa. He was attending Kaplan University, Mason City, Iowa and would have graduated in July with a degree in business. While attending Kaplan he was very involved with the fund raising for the Veterans Honor Flight. He enjoyed radio control cars, collecting match box cars and playing games on the computer.

He is survived by his parents Darrell and Deborah Avery, Meservey, Iowa; two sisters Elizabeth Rose (Brett) Bilyeu, Shell Rock, Iowa and Brooke Adele Avery, Meservey, Iowa; two nieces Haley Rose Bailey, and Sierra Autumn Bailey, Shell Rock, Iowa and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and his dog Barney. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, Iowa.
