KANAWHA, IA -Marcus Frederick Hoelscher, 88, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at the Muse Norris Inpatient Unit at Mason City. Services were held Saturday morning, April 13 at the United Methodist Church in Kanawha, with Pastor Susan Detwiler officiating and an afternoon service at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls with Pastor Ken Krueger officiating. Burial was at Northlawn Memory Gardens in Iowa Falls.
Marcus was born Dec. 4, 1913, to Gustav and Anna Joens Hoelscher on a farm near Hubbard. He graduated from Hubbard High School and from Iowa State University. In 1940 he married Rocel Dubberke from Hubbard and they lived in Yankton, S.D., where he worked for Gurney Seed and Nursery. He returned to farming, first at Hubbard and then to Iowa Falls in 1945. He retired in 1970 and moved into Iowa Falls where he spent the next 20 years selling real estate. After the death of his wife in 1987, he married Louise Smith in June, 1992 at Kanawha. They lived in Kanawha and Rochester, Minn., during their marriage.
He is survived by his wife, Louise; two sons, Wayne and his wife, Cynthia of Plymouth, Minn., and Neil and his wife, Lois, of Perry; a sister, Catharina Hoelscher of Fort Dodge; four grandsons, Aaron and his wife, Erin, Matthew, Kip and Jeff; a granddaughter, Louise and husband, Dale; a stepgranddaughter, Heather; stepgrandson, Michael; two great-grandsons and a stepgreat-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Rocel; and a sister, Laura Myers.
