Services for Elmer Bailey, 83, Rowan, were held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Rowan Methodist Church in Rowan. Elmer William Bailey Sr., son of William and Mina Bailey, was born on a farm near Owasa, Hardin County, Iowa, December 19th, 1883 and suddenly passed away at his home Sept. 20th, 1967 at the age of 83 years, 10 months, 1 day. As a young boy he moved with his parents to the vicinity of Rowan, Iowa. On March 22, 1911, he and Miss Lucy Ellen Ryder were united in marriage at her mother's farm home at Rowan, Iowa. To this union were born six children. They are Edwin and Kenneth of Rowan, Iowa; Lloyd of Aredale, Iowa, Merle and Mrs. Leona Haupt of Alexander, Iowa; and Elmer Jr. of Leavenworth, Kansas. He is survived by his widow, his six children, 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also two brothers, Fuller J. Bailey of Clear Lake, Iowa and William C. Bailey of Rowan. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Chester, Frank and Earl and one sister, Mrs. May Jennings. He was a member of the Methodist Church from childhood and until recently held several offices on the church board.
