GARNER, Iowa - Esther Block Goche, 92, of Garner, died Saturday (April 10, 2010) at the Concord Care Center in Garner. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garner with the Rev. Dale Glawatz officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Garner and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church Foundation or Hospice of North Iowa.
Esther Block Goche, the daughter of Herman and Eva (Borchers) Folkerts, was born on Nov. 13, 1917, near Kanawha. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. As a child she lived in the Kanawha, Thompson and Elmore, Minn., areas. On Jan. 28, 1937, she was married to Lawrence Block. They lived on a farm north of Garner until 1943 when they moved to a farm east of Klemme. In 1965, they moved into Garner. On June 14, 1972, Lawrence passed away. Esther then worked at Prairie View Apartments in Garner for several years where she met and married Walter Goche on Jan. 6, 1978. After Walter passed away in 1996, she continued to live in Garner. Esther became a resident of Concord Care Center in 2003. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, baking, babysitting, crocheting and embroidering. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was a past member of the Ladies Aid. She was also a past member of Klemme Music Mothers.
Esther is survived by her two children, Harlan (Sandy) Block of Klemme and Lois Eenhuis of Garner; grandchildren, Brian (Cindy) Eenhuis and their children, Alexa and Taylor of Melbourne, Fla., Bruce Eenhuis of Melbourne, Fla., Brad (Stephanie) Eenhuis and their daughter, Eva, of Iowa City and Nathan (Kathleen) Block and their children, Ashley, Carter, Tyler, Caleb and Trevor of Waukon; step-children, Jane Shroyer of Fremont, Neb., Florence Hammer of Forest City, Joanne (Cecil) Wirth of Forest City, Doris Goche of Lochbruie, Colo., Linda (Richard) Reinhart of Corpus Christi, Texas, Dean (Karen) Goche of Farmington, Minn. and Marilyn (Brian) Shattuck of Milford, N.H.; many step grandchildren; and many step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; an infant son, Harold in 1939; a brother, Harvey (Leona) Folkerts; step sons, Lawrence and Donald Goche; and step- sons-in-law, Robert Shroyer, Richard Hammer and Jerry Bradley.
