BELMOND, IA - William Leon Gifford, age 93, of Belmond passed away Wednesday (April 7, 2010) at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. William Leon, the son of Leon and Ruth Anderson Gifford, was born Jan. 27, 1917. Bill was a longtime member of Belmond United Methodist Church. His kind and gentle spirit, humor, wisdom and love of his family will be missed. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Marie VanDusseldorp, of almost 74 years. They have four children, Wanda Mikesh and husband, Charles, of Belmond, Coleen Greiman and husband, Herb, of Belmond, Vicki Claytor and husband, Gary, of Denton, Texas, and Jon Gifford of Champlin, Minn.; 10 grandchildren, Charles Mikesh Jr. (Lori), William Mikesh (Tracey), Debra Rouchka (Tom), Sherrie Revland (Brad), Wade Greiman (Debbie), Bob Greiman, Field Claytor (Rita), Hamilton Claytor, Katie Gifford and Alex Gifford. There are six great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Bill is also survived by his brother, Don Gifford, and wife, Lois, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by infant daughter, Judy; brother, Harold, and his parents. We grieve not as those who have no hope, for we shall be together with the Lord.
