J. S. Maurer died, Monday evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Samuel Klassie and was laid to rest in Vernon Cemetery on Wednesday. Funeral services were held in the Evangelical church. Rev. A. W. Schlesselman officiating.

Jacob Maurer was born Oct. 31, 1844, at Ricken, Kanton Argau, Switzerland, and passed away at 8:00 p. m. Feb. 4th, 1918 at the home of his daughter Mrs. Samuel Klassie in Renwick at the age of 73 years, 8 months and 4 days. In 1871 he was married to Elizabeth Rickle, and in 1873 came to America stopping in Ohio about one year, after which he moved to Columbus, Platte Co., Neb., settling on a homestead. In 1901 he moved to Rock Co., and in 1910 to Iowa, living a part of the time with Jno. Hefty his son-in-law. On Dec. 2nd last, he was taken suddenly ill and had been steadily failing until his death. Part of the time during his illness he was with John Hefty's then while seemingly improving went to Samuel Klassie's where he spent the last hours of his life. He leaves to mourn his departure his faithful companion for 47 years, 4 sons and 5 daughters all married, 43 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.Another hand beckons us to put forth greater efforts to win the eternal prize.
