DOWS, IA — Clark Edwin Williams, 91, of Dows passed away on Sunday (April 4, 2010) at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton from pneumonia. Clark was born Sept. 8, 1918, near Fremont, Iowa, the son of John and Ferne (Clark) Williams. He grew up on a farm near Fremont and graduated from Fremont High School in 1936. He married Pauline Catherine Johnson on July 4, 1945. Clark spent most of his adult life farming near Dows, retiring at age 85. Along the way, he also drove the school bus and an oil truck, worked at the Dows Lumber Yard and was a field reporter for the FSA. For 30 years he also assisted Pauline in operating the Dows Dairy Créme. Clark enjoyed spending his winters over the last several years at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton and has always enjoyed socializing with friends and neighbors in the area.

Clark is survived by two daughters, Rella Fanselow (Duane) and Zella Charlson (John Duden), both of Dows; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Steve Williams of Ottumwa; and a sister, Johnita Johnson of Preston, Mo. He was preceded in death by his wife, an infant son, his parents, one brother and three sisters.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 8, at the First Lutheran Church in Dows. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, also at the church. Memorial contributions can be directed to the First Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa. Cremation Society of Eastern-Central-Western Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
