Maxine Carlson, 82, formerly of Boone and Ogden, Iowa, passed away at the Boone County Hospital in Boone, Iowa on Friday morning, March 26, 2010. She had been a resident at the Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone since December 5, 2008.
Maxine was born on January 5, 1928 in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Noah and Ethel (Teems) Martin. On September 7, 1946, she married Donald Carlson at Webster City, Iowa. Maxine graduated from Stratford High School in 1946. Donald and Maxine owned the Ridgeport Locker from 1958 until 1976. After living in Boone for 2 years, they moved to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa in 1978, returning to the Boone area in 1987. The Carlson lived in Ogden, Iowa from 2000 until 2008. Maxine enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, the out-of-doors, and loved spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary (VFW) in Boone and the Mineral Ridge Baptist Church until its closing, but attended chapel at the Evangelical Free Church Home regularly.
Her parents and one brother, Carl Martin, preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband Donald E. Carlson of Boone; daughter, Linda Bancroft and husband Steve of Springfield, Illinois and their children Jil (Kyle) Nelson of Pella, Iowa; Julie (Doug) Hill of Springfield, Illinois; daughter Laura Wellner and husband Steve of Chamberlain, South Dakota and their children Leah Core of Chandler, Arizona, Chad (Susan) Core of Ankeny, Iowa, Danny Blom of Scottsdale, Arizona and Lance Blom of Chamberlain, South Dakota; daughter Donna Hilton and husband Roger of Boone, Iowa and their children Nicole (Jeremy) Huston of Boone and Nathan (Alyssa) Hilton of Winterset, Iowa; and daughter Valerie Evans and her husband Craig of Boone, Iowa and their children Travis Reinhart (Kristy Harris) of Ames, Iowa, Alyssa Reinhart (Regis Racine) of Boone, Iowa, Jennifer Evans of Independence, Iowa, and Justin Evans of Ames, Iowa; 15 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Walter (Mary) Martin of Humboldt, Iowa, Darrell (Inge) Martin of Duluth, Minnesota, and John Martin of Faribault, Minnesota; three sisters Darlene Lindley of Alexandria, Minnesota, Kay (Neil) Cook of Richmond, Minnesota, and Mariland Kleppe of Eagle Grove, Iowa; and a sister-in-law Letha Martin of Milo, Iowa.
Services will be held Wednesday morning, March 31st at 10:30 a.m. at the Baptist Church in Stratford, Iowa with Pastor Jeff McDowell officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery north of Stratford. Friends may call at the Stark-Welin Chapel in Boone on Tuesday evening, March 30th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present during that time to greet friends. Visitations will continue Wednesday morning at the Church from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service. Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the family. Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Boone is in charge of arrangements.
