LaVerne B. Ackerman – age 83, of Pocahontas, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa. LaVerne Bernice Hohensee was born August 24, 1926, near Pocahontas, Iowa. She was the daughter of Fred and Mary (Dirks) Hohensee. She graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1944. On June 7, 1945, LaVerne married Edwin Ackerman. The couple lived near Palmer and Clear Lake before settling in Belmond. Ed passed away in 1969. In 1971, LaVerne moved to the Pocahontas Residential Center and in 1998 she moved to the Pocahontas Manor. LaVerne was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her son, Larry (Janet) Ackerman of Hamilton, VA; sisters, twin Larene Nomann of Pocahontas and Lucille (Roger) Boelman of Belmond and brothers, Lester (Louise) Hohensee of Monet, MO and Leonard (Shirley) Hohensee of Pocahontas. LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Edwin.

POCAHONTAS - LaVerne Ackerman, age 83, of Pocahontas, passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas. Funeral service is at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 5, 2010, at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, with Rev. Jack Kahle officiating. Graveside service and burial will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 5, at the Belmond Cemetery in Belmond. Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church. Powers Funeral Home in Pocahontas is handling arrangements.
