March 2, 1868 -- December 12, 1924
Mrs. Simon Tinklenberg died early on Tuesday morning of last week at the Slayton Hospital, following an actue attack of a chronic trouble from which she had suffered for several months. Until eight days before her death, she had done her housework as usual, although she had at times suffered considerable pain from her ailment. At the time of arrival at the hospital her condition was so serious that it was impossible to do anything to save her. The news of her death came as a terrible shock to her relatives and friends, few of whom had realized her serious condition. Funeral services were conducted at the Christian Reformed Church in Edgerton on Friday, by Rev. Theodore Vander Ark, and burial took place at Hillside Cemetery.
Mrs. Tinklenberg's maiden name was Jennie Ver Steeg, and she was born at Pella, Iowa, March 2, 1868. Later her people moved to Orange City, where she was married to Simon Tinklenberg in 1889. Fourteen years ago the family came to the vicinity of Edgerton, where the deceased resided most of the time there after, making a brief sojourn in California a few years ago and also returning to Orange City for a short term of residence. Upon the death of her step-son Leonard's wife last winter, Mrs. Tinklenberg and her husband took a little boy and girl into their home to care for, and her untimely and unexpected death is an especially sad loss to these little ones. If ever a faithful, loving, loyal wife, mother and grandmother graced and blessed and earthly home, that credit should be given to Mrs. Tinklenberg. She was generous, gentle, kindly, friendly and true, a queen among women, as the writer's family can testify from neighboring with her. She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, her sons Charles, Dick, Ed and Clarence, her daughter Martha, now Mrs. John Ten Cate, her step-son Leonard, several grand children and numerous other relatives.
No human tongue can convey to the bereaved ones the sympathy felt for them in their loss nor tell of the grief of the many friends of her who was so suddenly called.
