POPEJOY GIRL DEAD
Daughter of J. E. Carr Victim of The Flu

Miss Gladys Florence Carr, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Carr, of Popejoy, died Tuesday, December 17th at 8:00 o'clock a.m. at Iowa City, Iowa, the victim of that dreaded disease, influenza. When word was received of her illness, her mother and father went to her aid at once; the very best of doctors and nurses did all that could be done, but sceptic pneumonia developed, and all that skill and loving hands could do was of no avail.

Gladys Florence Carr was born on the home farm, Oakland township, Franklin county, Iowa, August 28, 1900. From here she grew to womanhood. She attended the Popejoy public school until thirteen years of age, when she graduated from the eighth grade. She then entered high school at Dows, where she completed her high school course and graduated with high honors at the early age of seventeen, in June, 1918. Gladys being ambitious for her future education, desired to continue her research for something higher. She decided to enter the State University at Iowa City, where she took up a course in Liberal Arts.

She leaves to mourn her loss her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Carr, four sisters, Mrs. C. C. Harte, of Kerman, California; Mrs. W. G. Brede, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Mrs. F. A. Rummel, of Dows; Mrs. J. W. Fisher, and one brother, Woodrow Carr. One brother, Johnnie Carr Jr. passed away on Feburary 1st 1915. She leaves other relations and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Elwick, of Dows, and Rev. Bottom, of Gilmore City. Interment was made in the Alden cemetery. The family have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in their sorrow.
