Services Held For Nolan, 78

Funeral services for Charles Nolan, mention of whose death was made in last week's Democrat, were held Saturday at the Immaculate Conception church in Graettinger with the Rev. J. Hurley officiating at the requiem mass. Also present were the Very Rev. W. F. Mason and the Rev. Kane of Estherville. Burial was in St. Jacob's cemetery with the Martin Funeral home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Nolan was born near Emmetsburg on June 8, 1867. He was 78 years old. In 1900 he was married to Elizabeth Quinn in Graettinger. They made their home on a farm near Graettinger and have continued to reside there. Mr. Nolan was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus. Surviving are his wife and ten children, Mrs. A. F. Lowenberg, of Goodell, Iowa; Mrs. Lawrence Smith of Wesley; Mrs. Andy Johnson of Humboldt; Mrs. Henry Theil of Ringsted, Mrs. W. Hughes, Mrs. W. Joyce and Robert Nolan, all of Graettinger and Mrs. Jay Donahue and Mrs. James Brennan of Emmetsburg. One son, Pfc. John Nolan is in the service in England. One brother, M. F. Nolan of St. Louis, a sister, Mrs. J. J. Martin of Emmetsburg and thirty-six granchildren also survive. He is preceded in death by three children, who died in infancy.

One of the fine substantial citizens of the county, Mr. Nolan was well-liked and his death is mourned by his many friends. He was a pioneer farmer and had a wide acquaintance in this locality. Sincere sympathy is offered to the family in their loss.
