Marvin "Gus" Williams, age 70, of Williams, died on Saturday, January 9, 2009 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Graveside services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Williams Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 P.M. Tuesday at the Surls Funeral Home in Williams.

Marvin Lavern (Gus) Williams was born at home on a farm northwest of Williams on July 11, 1939, the son of Harold and Carrie (Oswood) Williams. He attended country school and Williams Independent Grade and High School. Throughout his high school years he was an active athlete in baseball and basketball. After graduating from the Williams Independent High School in 1958, he farmed for fifty one years in the Williams area. He married Marlene J. Johnson on July 21, 1973 at the Vernon Lutheran Church near Dows. Gus was a member of the Williams United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Elks for thirty six years and the Hamilton County Farm Bureau. He was a very active worker with the Williams Community Benefit. He enjoyed farming and visiting with his many friends. Gus is survived by his wife, Marlene; a sister, Shirley Izer and her husband, Marion; a brother, Donald D. Williams and his wife, Joan; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parent, Harold and Carrie Williams; a sister, Margaret Huebner; and nephews, Gary Huebner, Lynn Izer, Perry Williams, and Caleb Williams.
