James Arthur Schneider was born December 8, 1871, on a farm near Froelich, Clayton County, Iowa, the third of a family of eight children born to his parents Henry and Sarah Schneider. He was baptized in the Christian faith at the Evangelical Church at Froelich, Iowa. His childhood days were spent on the farm and he attended a nearby rural school. On December 17th, 1902, at the age of 31 years, he was united in marriage to Ella Matilda Arnold. They began housekeeping on the Schneider home farm near Monona, Iowa, where they lived seven years. Later they purchased a farm near Goodell, Iowa, where they now reside, and where they have lived continuously for 33 years, with the exception of six years spent in Twin Falls, Idaho, where they moved in an effort to find relief for Mr. Schneider's asthma. The United Brethren Church of Goodell was Mr. Schneider's church home and his place of worship. Although he suffered from asthma for years, he did not let it spoil his disposition; he was always friendly, kind-hearted and honest in his dealings. For the past two years his ailment grew gradually worse, and the end came Saturday evening, December 19, 1942. He reached the age of 71 years, and 11 days. He leaves besides his wife, three sisters: Alma and Edna of Mason City, Iowa, Anna of Los Angeles, California; one brother, Lafe Schneider of Twin Falls, Idaho; and other more distant relatives and friends.
