IOWA FALLS - LaVerne A. Sharar, 88, of Ankeny, formerly of Iowa Falls, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, at University Park Nursing and Rehab Center, Des Moines. He was born Nov. 21, 1921, near Alden, son of Glenn and Ella Alverson Sharar. He married Marilyn Balvanz on Oct. 26, 1963. He graduated from Alden High School in 1939 and attended Central College from 1939-1940. He served in the U.S. Army in Australia, New Guinea, the Philippines, and was an occupation troop in Japan. Mr. Sharar was a former owner of Ackerman’s in Alden and King Construction in Iowa Falls. He was a charter member of the Alden Lions Club.

Survived by: his wife; two sons, Larry (Leona) of Dows and Rodney (Karey) of Ankeny; three daughters, Janice (Loyd) Hurd of Alden, LeAnn (Mike) Jass of Garden Grove and Deborah Sharar of Urbandale; a brother, Lyle (Joan) of Garner; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Memorial Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bethany Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls. Public visitation from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Surls Funeral Home, Iowa Falls, where there will be a 6 p.m. Elks service.
