Verah Adelaide Trank was born to Lynn and Goldie Ingersoll Trank on December 30, 1906 at Cook, Nebraska. She attended Cook High School and later was married to Harvey Niebuhr on October 23, 1924 at Clarion, Iowa. During their marriage, the couple lived at Syracuse, Nebraska and to this union was born a daughter. Mr. Niebuhr died on July 22, 1933.
Verah moved to Wahoo, Nebraska in 1936 and began working with Irmine Olsen in a beauty shop in downtown Wahoo, over the old J.C. Penneys Store. Later, as the business grew and both beauty operators had built an established clientele, Verah and Irmine separated and continued working, each in their own home. Verah's Beauty Shop was opened in the 1940's and she continued working until retirement in 1988 after more than 50 years as a hair stylist.
In 1943 Verah Trank Niebuhr married Bernard McCarthy at Rockford, Illinois. "Bernie" as he was known to most people passed away on January 7, 1963. Verah was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wahoo. She passed from this earthly life on Sunday, December 17, 1995 at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 17 days at the Haven House Nursing Home, Wahoo, Nebraska where she had resided since December 16, 1992.
Verah was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and a grandson, Steven Lahann. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law; Goldene and Robert Lahann of Riverside, California; two brothers, Warren Trank of Alliance Nebraska, and Lynn Trank of Charleston, Illinois. Two grandchildren; Doug Lahann of San Juan Capistrano, California and Barbara Dwyer of Corona, California and four great grandchildren.
