IOWA FALLS—Avon E. Ellingson, 93, of Iowa Falls died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, at Israel Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be Monday, Jan. 24, at 10 a.m. at the Iowa Falls First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Alden Cemetery. Visitation will be at Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls on Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Cedar Ridge Apartments c/o Memorial Fund, 1221 Fremont St., Iowa Falls, IA 50126, and Israel Hospice House, 400 S. Dakota Ave., Ames, IA 50010.
Avon was born Sept. 6, 1911, near Dows in Franklin County to Rade and Arthur Anderson. She graduated from Dows High School in 1928. On June 23, 1932, she was united in marriage with Floyd N. Ellingson. The couple had three children and lived on farms near Popejoy and Alden before moving to Iowa Falls in 1957. In addition to farming, they operated Ellingson Super Service in Popejoy and were partners in the Thorson Chevrolet Agency in Radcliffe. Avon enjoyed music, playing the piano and organ and dancing with her husband. She was a member of the Iowa Falls First United Church and the Iowa Falls Women's Club.
Survivors include daughter Marilyn Ellingson Hodapp of Arvada, Colo.; son William A. Ellingson and wife Mary of Naperville, Ill.; nine grandchildren;12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd; her daughter, Marlys Munns; three sisters, Arlouine Kappel, Valois Griffin and Genevieve Frisby; two sons-in-law, Gene Brandt and Mel Hodapp; and an infant grandchild.
