Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday at St. John's EV. Lutheran Church rural Greene, Iowa, with burial in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-6 PM at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Allison. Pastor Mark Walker will officiate the service.
Bernice Elesa Johanna Dorthea Seehusen, 83, of Allison, Iowa, passed away July 11, 2008, at the Waverly Health Care Center in Waverly, Iowa, from natural causes. She was born January 28, 1925, at her parents farm to Martin & Frieda (Heuer) DeBower. She was baptized on March 1, 1925 and confirmed April 2, 1939 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Vilmar, where she remained a lifelong member. She attended Walnut Grove country School and graduated from Allison High School. She received her teaching certificate from Wartburg College and taught elementary classes at Dows, Iowa for three years. After her children were raised, she returned to Wartburg College to renew her certificate and taught at Allison-Bristow for many years. Bernice married George Seehusen Jr. on March 14, 1947. They spent their life together farming. She spent many hours baking and cooking for her family. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and growing flowers. Her seven grandchildren were the joy of her life.
Bernice is survived by her husband George Seehusen, sons Jeff (Carol) of Allison, Joel (Cindy) of Moorland, Iowa, and James of Allison; grandchildren Brent (Kristen), Clint (Amy), Curt (Susan), Marc (Jennifer), Tyler, Jared (Suzi), and Matt, great grandchildren, Ali, Blake, Isabella, Chandler, Libbie and Bryce. She is also survived by her sister Eileen Berends and her brother Martin DeBower and her brother-in-law Clarence Prange. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother John DeBower and her sister Lucille Prange.
