James Logan, Former Resident here, is Dead

Eagle Grove Man, Retired C. & N. W. Railway Conductor, Succumbs - Wife Is Critically Ill

James Logan, of Eagle Grove, Ia., brother of Abe Logan, of Traer, died Monday in a sanitarium at Des Moines where he had been an invalid for more than a year, and had been in failing health for several years. He was about 78 years old. The funeral will be held at Eagle Grove at 10:30 o'clock this morning, after which the body will be brought back to Traer for burial in West Union Cemetery. An Eagle Grove pastor will conduct the committal service at the grave, probably around 3 o'clock. The decedent's wife is critically ill at the home of a daughter in Virginia, where she was taken only last week. It had been planned that Mr. Logan would follow within a short time. Mrs. Logan suffered a paralytic stroke three or four weeks ago while on a train en route home from California. Besides the married daughter in Virginia, the couple have one other daughter, Miss Greba Logan, who is a teacher in the state of Washington. Mr. Logan is the son of James and Janet Logan, pioneers of the Traer community, and grew to manhood here. He was married in Traer on Sept. 20, 1893, to Mary I. Stuart, also a member of a well-known north Tama family. At that time he was working as a brakeman for the C. & N. W. railroad, making his home at Eagle Grove, and later he was advanced to the role of conductor, in which he served for many more years until his retirement several years ago. He is survived, besides the wife and two daughters already mentioned, by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Katherine Reed, of Rockwell City, Ia.; Horace Logan of Lohrville; Frank, of Estherville; Mrs. John Everts of Centerville, Mo.; and Robert and Abe Logan, Mrs. Ed Stoakes and Mrs. Garfield Powell, all of the Traer vicinity. Three brothers, John, William and Charles Logan, and two sisters, Nettie and Mrs. John Campbell, preceded him in death.
