FORT MYERS, Florida—Sonya Kay Jorgensen Carlson, formerly of Iowa Falls, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2008, in Fort Myers, Florida, following a brief illness. Sonya was the daughter of the late Leo Jorgensen and Gertrude (Schwieger) Jorgensen, longtime residents of Hampton, Dows and Iowa Falls and later Clear Lake and Fort Myers, Florida. She was born on July 8, 1943 and attended the Iowa Falls Schools. After graduating from the Iowa Falls High School, class of 1958, Sonya attended the University of Iowa where she married Douglas Carlson and later moved to Hawaii. There, she raised her two sons, Ragnar Jorgensen Carlson and Eric Jorgensen Carlson. Sonya had many experiences working and meeting people. She loved traveling and visiting her family and friends. She always loved living by water and lived in Hawaii; California; Clear Lake, Iowa; and Fort Myers, Florida. To those who knew Sonya, words cannot describe what she meant to us! Sonya was selfless, kind and thoughtful to everyone; she was intelligent and witty and great fun to be around! Sonya was a wonderful mother and grandmother to her sons and grandchildren, whom she truly loved and adored! She was a loyal friend and a special cousin to all of us!

Sonya was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Gertrude Jorgensen. She is survived by her two sons, Ragnar and Eric; and two grandchildren, Lily and Jack, all of Honolulu, Hawaii.

The family will hold a memorial for Sonya in Clear Lake on Sunday, July 12, (time to be determined) to share their love for her and memories of how Sonya touched their lives!
