DOWS, IA—Evelyn P. Hanson, 92, of Dows, died on Monday, November 23, 2009, at the Sheffield Care Center. Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 28, at the First Lutheran Church in Dows, with Pastor Bob Edwards officiating. Burial was in the Otis Grove Cemetery near Dows. The Dugger Funeral Home in Dows was in charge of the arrangements.

Evelyn Pearl (Ingebritson) Hanson, was born on March 13, 1917, the daughter of Daniel and Mary (Reynolds) Ingebritson, on a farm in Franklin County. She attended country school near the farmstead and went on to attend and graduate from the Popejoy High School. Evelyn played basketball and played in the band. On March 21, 1937, Evelyn was united in marriage with Kenneth Hanson at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Hampton. After their marriage the couple lived for a short time south of Dows, before moving to a farm near Goodell, where they made their home. Later, Evelyn and Kenneth moved back to a farm near Dows where they raised their family. Evelyn was a homemaker who loved flowers, gardening, sewing, cooking and spending time with her family. She and Kenneth are well-remembered for the Lefse they made and shared with people throughout the area. Evelyn also enjoyed church, attending Ladies Aid and making quilts. Evelyn was known by her family and others as the "Doughnut Queen," as she won many blue ribbons at local and state fairs for her prize-winning doughnuts. She enjoyed cooking for her family and having everyone gather for family dinners. She was the "teacher" for her grandchildren, as they made pies and did sewing projects for 4-H.

Those left to cherish her memory are her three sons, Merrill Hanson and wife, Geraldine, Norman Hanson and wife, Carol and Neilan Hanson and wife, Trish, all of Dows; seven grandchildren and their families, Doug Hanson and his wife, Audra and their children, Brandon, Danielle and Dylan of Bremerton, Washington, Susan Hanson and husband, Brian Fulmer of Seattle, Washington, Christine Ruger and her husband, Jim and their children, Alyssa, Kelsey and Zane of Rockwell, Sara Kepler and her husband, Ben and their daughter, Adalyn of Ames, Lisa Gorder and her husband, Lon and their children, Jacob and Carlie of Buckingham, John Hanson and his wife, Kerri and their children, Brent, Ellie and Coy of Dows and Kari Bell and her husband, Kevin and their children, Hanna, Rebeka, Erik and Marii of Nevada; three sisters, Bernice Hammond of Waterloo, Meriam Lewis of Granite Falls, Minnesota and Shirley Weiss of Las Vegas, Nevada; a brother, Howard Ingebritson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a sister-in-law, Bernice Ingebritson of Hampton; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her parents, Dan and Mary; a daughter, Linda; grandson, Erik Hanson; sister, Wilma Dotseth; and two brothers, Donald and Raymond Ingebritson.
