Howard H. Nichols passed away on March 18, 1974 at the age of 87. Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 21, from the Swanson Funeral Chapel at 1 p.m. with Rev. A. Soderfelt officiating. Pallbearers were Fred Baker, Ervin Stevens, Jr. George Ausmus, Vernon Janssen, William Witte and Joe Janssen. Interment at Hustletown cemetery.

Howard was born in Clarion, Wright County, Iowa on December 12, 1886 to William and Mary Nichols. He was married to Sarah Powell in Pine City. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Luella) Odegard of Fort Pierre, South Dakota and Mrs. Eilert (Lucille) Janssen of Pine City; two brothers, Floyd (Bud) of Hinckley and Wayne of St. Paul; 17 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on February 10, 1961 and one infant daughter.
