MARQUETTE, MI — Lucille M. Robinson, 99, of 701 Homestead St. and formerly of 425 Albert St., Marquette, passed away December 13, 2007, at Norlite Nursing Center, where she had been living. Lucille was born August 18, 1908, in Superior, Wis., a daughter of Laughlin and Jane (MacLean) Mackay. Following graduation from high school, Lucille enrolled at Superior College, graduating in 1928 with a degree in Education. She began her career teaching in the Ironwood School System in 1928, and in 1931, married Thomas H. Robinson. Lucille and her husband moved to Goldfield, Iowa, in 1936 and lived there until moving back to Marquette in 1939. She resumed her teaching career in 1950, teaching in Beaver Grove and at Parkview Elementary School in Marquette until her retirement in 1971. In her spare time, Lucille was an avid golfer, outdoorswoman, and was an accomplished bridge player who achieved Life Master Status. She also enjoyed walking on the shores of Lake Superior, which she did every day until her nineties.

Survivors include her two sons, Dr. William L. Robinson and Richard H. Robinson, both of Marquette; four grandchildren, Rebecca (Lawrence) Tavernini, Daniel (Trish) Robinson, Paula (Phil) Lutey and Thomas Robinson, all of Marquette; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas Robinson, in 1983; daughter-in-law, Glenda Robinson; and two brothers and two sisters. Friends may call at the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home on Monday, December 17, from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 5 p.m. in the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home with the Rev. Chuck Tooman officiating. Burial will be in the Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, 710 Chippewa Square, Marquette, MI 49855. The Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home is serving the family.
