Bartel Michels was born August 13, 1894 in Wright County, Iowa. He was the son of John and Elizabeth Michels, one of three children. He grew to manhood in the Clarion vicinity. On October 6, 1918 he married Ida Legge of Clarion. They made their home in Clarion until 1940, at which time they moved to Des Moines, Iowa. Since 1942 he had been with the Williams Wilbert Vault Co. of Des Moines, serving for many years as production manager. He passed away suddenly following a severe heart attack, while at his place of work, Apr. 5, 1966. He is survived by his wife, Ida Michels of Des Moines; one sister, Mrs. Edward Stecher of Clarion; one brother, Henry Michels of Clarion; a number of nieces and nephews plus a host of other relatives and friends.
