Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 5 at the Eyler Funeral chapel for James Streit, who passed away Saturday afternoon at his home in Clarion after a sudden illness. Rev. Calvin Milan officiated. Interment was at Clarion Evergreen Cemetery.
James Glenroy Streit was born in Sterling, Ill. on June 2, 1908. He and his family moved in 1912 to Clarion, where he was a lifetime resident. He attended Clarion Public School until he began working for the Chicago Great Western Railroad. He was an engineer for the railroad until September of 1954 at which time he took a disability retirement. On February 9. 1936 he was united in marriage to Esther A. Dibble. To this union was born a daughter Carol in 1943. He is remembered by his family and friends as a person who made their troubles seem small and insignificant in spite of his own disability. He Is survived by his wife, Esther A. Streit of Clarion, his daughter, Mrs. Carol Cales of Inver Grove Heights, Minn, his mother, Nettie Streit of Clarion, three brothers, Herman Strelt of South St. Paul, Minn., John Strelt of Oelwein. Wallace Strelt of Waterloo, one sister, Mrs. June Gragert of Rock Falls. Illinois, and one grandson, James Cales.
