JOLLEY - Gladys J. Betten, 84, of Jolley, passed away on Aug. 20 at the Pomeroy Care Center. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Pomeroy, with Pastor Michael Harman officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery at Pomeroy. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at the Michael Loterbour-Powers Funeral Home, Pomeroy.

Gladys Jeanette Betten was born to Jacob and Hattie Dyrland Orsland on May 31, 1925 at Thor, Iowa. She was baptized Aug. 2, 1925 and confirmed June 25, 1939 by Pastor T. B. Thorson at Ullensvang Lutheran Church, Thor. Gladys attended Norway Township No. 9 country school from kindergarten through 8th grade. She graduated from Thor High School in 1943. She lived on the family farm in rural Thor until her marriage to Herman John Betten on Nov. 26 1960 at Ullensvang Lutheran Church by Pastor Edward Swenson. To this union one son, Michael Wayne, was born on Aug. 2, 1962. They settled in Jolley, Iowa. Herman farmed until he passed away on Sept. 27, 1977. In August 2006 Gladys moved from her home in Jolley to the Pomeroy Care Center. She loved having family and friends come to visit. Gladys's family was her greatest joy. Her life was focused on and around her husband, son, brothers, sister, nieces and nephews. We all remember the times spent on the farm when we gathered for Christmas and many other times of celebration. The sound of laughter and stories were shared, along with many cups of coffee and chocolate cake. Gladys was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pomeroy.

Gladys will always be remembered by her family as well s many friends of her church and community. She is survived by her son, Michael and wife Janet Betten, of Hampton. She was preceded in death by her husband Herman, her parents, her sister, Henrietta (Glenn) Kunert, and her brothers, Oscar Orsland, Joe (Agnes) Orsland, Ernie (Pauline) Orsland, and Raymond (Mary) Orsland.
