Lionel L. Brotherton, born October 29, 1910 to Joseph and Vivian Brotherton in Kanawha, Iowa, passed away December 12, 2007 in Houston, Texas. Mr. Brotherton is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Seraphine; second wife of 14 years, Martha; son, Lionel "Sluggo" Brotherton, Jr.; brother, Joe; and sisters, Eulalia and "Ebbie". He is survived by son, Don Wayne Brotherton; daughters, Irene Ross and husband, Larry, Seraphine Kolar and husband, Calvin, Lannie Beth Whiteford and husband, Tim, Rita Schumacher and husband, Jimmy, and Priscilla Robichaux and husband, Gary; daughter-in-law, Dorothy Brotherton; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Dohn Harley and DeWayne; sisters, "Suggie", Eloise and DeAva; the Kurtin family; his sweetheart, Ellen Brecka, and numerous other family and friends. Mr. Brotherton worked 31 years for Schlumberger, where he was affectionately known as "Little Brother". He loved his family, carpentry and gardening, and enjoyed dancing with the Lancers Group, and at the El Ciento Dance Club and the local Sons of Hermann and SPJST Lodges. He also liked to travel with the Astrobago's. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, December 16, 2007 in the Chapel of Heights Funeral Home, where a rosary and vigil service will commence at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2007 at Saint Theresa's Catholic Church, 6622 Haskell, Houston, Texas 77007, with interment to follow in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. For those desiring, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
