Russell Edward Larsen was born November 13, 1916, the son of Chris and Louella (Peck) Larsen at Alexander, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Alexander and lived there until he entered the army October 7, 1941. He served in the Aleutian Islands and Italy as Motor Pool Sergeant. He received three Bronze Stars and various medals before being honorably discharged October 25, 1945. After returning from service he went into the trucking business and then moved to Boulder, Colorado. On December 11, 1953, he was united in marriage to Maxine Houston. They then moved to Minneapolis where they both were employed. Upon leaving Minneapolis they moved to Belmond where they managed the K-motel until the death of Maxine in April, 1969. Russell then returned to Alexander where he resided until his death.
Survivors include five sisters; Mrs. Ben (Doris) Dorenkamp of Alexander, Mrs. Denver (Lela) Schofield of Rockwell, Mrs. Henry (Emily) Modderman of Redwood City, California, Mrs. Earl (Hazel) Bachman of Alexander, and Theo Larsen of San Francisco, California, one brother, Lyle of Royal, one step-daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Lynette) Ready of Minneapolis, Minnesota and one step-grandson Michael Ready of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one sister, Gertrude.
Services Saturday, December 20, 1975 at United Methodist Church, Alexander, Iowa; Interment Alexander Cemetery
