3 August 2009Arthur Haviland, 95, Almond, Wisconsin died Friday, July 31, 2009, at his residence in Almond. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Almond United Methodist Church in Almond, with the Rev. David Leistra officiating. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery in Fort Dodge, Iowa, at a later date. Visitation will be at the church from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and again from noon Wednesday until the service. The Hardell-Holly Funeral Home of Almond assisted the family with arrangements.
Mr. Haviland was born May 10, 1914, in Humboldt County, Iowa, a son of the late David "Dee" Akin and Frances Almyra (Parsons) Haviland. He was married to Gladys Thompson on March 27, 1937, in Humboldt, Iowa. She died on March 28, 1981. His second marriage was to Doris Piorier in 1984. They were divorced. He was married to Arvilla Ammel on July 21, 1994. She died on Sept. 29, 2005. He had been a farmer for most of his working life. He was a member of the Almond United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Roy) Erickson, Eagle Grove, Iowa, and Sara "Sally" Yohn, Plainfield; 10 grandchildren, Monte (Melody) Erickson, Marcy (Bill) Bertran, Loree (Ronnie) Ellis, Tracy (Peggy) Erickson, Jill (David Schaefer) Erickson, Jared (Kayla) Erickson, Marty (Jamy) Yohn, Ronald (Laura) Yohn, Debra Yohn and Elizabeth (Larry) Johnston; 15 great-grandchildren; six great-stepgrandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and four great-great-stepgrandchildren. He was also preceded in death by three brothers; Don, Harold and Daniel Andrew Haviland; and three sisters; Helen Dean, Kathryn Bergeson and Elizabeth Dearinger Crouse.
