Doris Messerly, 89, of Fort Dodge, died June 18, 2007 at Fort Dodge Villa Care Center. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Peters officiating. Interment will be held in Colfax Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.

Doris P. Snell, the daughter of Clarence and Lila (Simpson) Snell, was born on May 16, 1918 in rural Duncombe. She graduated from Duncombe High School. On June 23, 1940 she was united in marriage to Alvin Messerly at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. The couple were members of St. Olaf for several years and later became members of Trinity United Methodist Church. They made their home and raised their family on a farm near Duncombe, moving to Fort Dodge in 1981. Doris enjoyed spending time with her family and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Doris is survived by her husband Alvin; her children and their spouses, Diane (Roger) Dencklau of Duncombe, Brian (Vickey) Messerly and Bruce (Moon) Messerly, all of Fort Dodge; her grandchildren Doyle Dencklau, Blake (Robyn) Messerly, Blane (Tricia) Messerly, Travis Messerly, Nick Messerly and Tram Messerly; great-grandchildren Jessica, Mason, Lexie and Chase Messerly. She was preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughter Darla Dencklau and great-granddaughter Brianna Messerly. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
