Fort Dodge Messenger, IowaGerald (Jerry) Keigher, 79, of Fort Dodge, died Friday, August 1, 2008 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 5 in the chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in St Joseph's Cemetery, Duncombe. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where there will be a vigil at 7:30 p.m.
Jerry is survived by his wife Shirley; their children, Dan and his wife Marsha of Glendale, AZ, Rick of Rockport, TX, Bill and his wife Brenda of Colorado Springs, CO, Linda Dencklau and her husband Keith of Fort Dodge; Steve and his wife Jaci of Fort Dodge, Kurt of Colorado Springs, CO; 22 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; brothers Ed of Wilmington, IL, David of Wilmington, IL, Jim of Gilman, IL; sisters, Winnie Boudreau of Manteno, IL, Judy Robbins of Chicago, IL, Jean Keigher of Joliet, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Katherine (Haley) Keigher; sons, Denny, Terry and Jeff; his granddaughter, Tami; his sister, Diane; and a brother, Raymond.
Gerald Keigher was born November 27, 1928 in Manteno, IL where he attended schools. As a young man he moved with his family to a farm near Barnum. On July 20, 1946 he was united in marriage to Shirley Crimmins at St Joseph's Church in Barnum and they established their home on a farm near Wilmington, IL. In 1961 they moved to a farm near Vincent where he farmed until his retirement in 1985 at which time he and Shirley began spending their winter months in Arizona. Jerry enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards, golfing, fishing and towards the end, sitting on the front porch with Shirley. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
