Maysel Belle Harman Ruse, 89, of Mount Vernon, died Sunday in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, from complications due to cancer. Services: 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Morgan Funeral Home, Mount Vernon, where friends may call from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Graveside services: 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Survivors include a sister, Daisy Addy of Canistota, S.D.; and a brother, Clarence Harman of Desert Hot Springs, Calif. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister and five brothers.

Born Dec. 11, 1903, to Arthur and Daisy Pearce Harman, in Bridgewater, S.D., she attended college in Spearfish, S.D. She taught in country schools in South Dakota before her marriage to Hume "Shorty" Ruse on Nov. 26, 1926, in Clarion. He died May 24, 1988. The couple moved in 1944 from Marion to Mount Vernon, where she worked for Stoll's Ben Franklin store before retirement. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Methodist Women, Sarah Circle, Alturia Club and a past member of Order of Eastern Star, all in Mount Vernon. A memorial fund has been established.
