Nadine L. Walrod, 78, Belmond, died July 3, 2009 at Muse Norris Hospice in Mason City. Services were held July 14 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond with Pastor Troy Pflibsen officiating. Burial will be held later at the Belmond Cemetery. Nadine was born on February 25, 1931 in rural Belmond, the daughter of Oren and Mona (Jenison) Hanson. She graduated from Belmond High School in 1949 and married Dale J. Walrod on May 20, 1949 in Mason City. They resided in Belmond, Clarion, Norwalk, Oelwein, Ankeny and Spirit Lake. Nadine worked a variety of jobs, ranging from detasseler, clerk, office receptionist and home-maker. But her main "career priority" always remained that of wife, mother, and later on, grandma and great-grandma. Nadine was a member of Trinity Lutheran where she was active in delivering Meals on Wheels with Dale. Nadine was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and took great pride in preparing her Norsk recipes, especially almond cake and kringla. Nadine was preceded in death by her parents and brother Roger. Nadine is survived by her husband; son Tim (Diane) Walrod of Hanlontown; daughter Faith (Dennis) Hoyer of Sabula; grandchildren Chris (Amy) Hoyer of Des Moines, Mikan (Phil) Sheldon of Algonquin, IL, Cory (Michelle) Hoyer of Estherville, Erica (Anthony) Felky of Preston, and Lyndsay (Mathew) Schulz of Highlands Ranch, CO; step-grandchildren Alissa Gomez of Hanlontown, Angie Gomez of Lake Mills, Dan Lloyd of Helena, MT, and Alanna (Jordan) Davison of Plymouth; and nine great-grandchildren.
