Conrad R. Enburg, 80, of Shabbona, Ill., died Monday, July 13, 2009, at Kindred Hospital in Sycamore. He was born Feb. 12, 1929, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the son of Conrad and Alice (Stamp) Enburg. He married Marie M. Hodge Feb. 15, 1958, in LaGrange. Conrad's family eventually moved from Eagle Grove, Iowa, to Chicago. Later, Conrad moved his family to Shabbona in the early 1970s. He had been employed as a railroad detective, drove an armored car for Brink's, had worked as a barber in Warrenville and retired in the early 1990s from General Mills in West Chicago, where he worked in maintenance. He was a veteran of World War II, serving both stateside and overseas in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was a former member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Naperville and the Civil Air Patrol.

Survivors include three sons, Conrad (Wanda) Enburg III of Rock Falls and Claude (Toni) Enburg and Joseph Enburg, both of Shabbona; two daughters, Christine (George) Gould of Shabbona and Maggie Hanson of Lee; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie, on Dec. 12, 1996; and a sister, Marjorie Alice Enburg.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 17, at Jacobson Funeral Home in Shabbona, 815-824-2618, with Pastor James Allen, minister of Shabbona United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be at Johnson's Grove Cemetery, Waterman. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 16, at the funeral home. A memorial is being established.
