Mary Jo Petersen, 65, died Sunday, June 8, 1997, in her home after a lengthy illness. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, St. Edward Catholic Church, Waterloo. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at O'Keefe & Towne-Grarup & Waychoff Funeral Home, Waterloo, where a vigil service begins at 7 p.m.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne; three sons, Stephen J. Nutting of Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands, and Michael J. and Daniel P. Nutting, both of Waterloo; two daughters, Nancy M. Leyen of Dysart and Susan A. Lindsey of Council Bluffs; nine grandchildren; and a sister, Patricia Johnson of Waverly. She was preceded in death by a son, Andrew James.

Born June 12, 1931, in Dows, she was the daughter of T.W. "Wes" and Marjorie V. Hemenway Anderson. Mary Jo married N. Joseph Nutting on Jan. 5, 1952, in Waterloo. They were later divorced. She married Wayne B. Petersen on Nov. 30, 1985, in Dysart.
