Anthony Gene Azeltine, 48, of Bethel Park, Pa., died peacefully in his mother's arms after a long battle with cancer on Wednesday, May 16, 2001, in St. Clair Hospital, Mount Lebanon Township, Pa. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kramer Funeral Home, Monticello. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Hopkinton with the Rev. Marti Montovani officiating. Burial will be at Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls, Iowa.

Anthony Gene Azeltine was born June 6, 1952, in Iowa Falls, the son of W. Dean and Mary Heim Azeltine. He was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Iowa Falls on Oct. 26, 1952. He attended schools in Iowa Falls, Webster Groves, Mo., and Upper St. Clair, Pa. He graduated from Upper St. Clair High School in June of 1970. Tony attended Robert Morris Junior College in Pittsburgh, receiving an associate of arts degree in 1972. He spent his summers during his college years in Iowa, employed as a welder for Cuckler Building Systems in Monticello. He returned to Bethel Park, Pa., in 1973, and was employed by Mulach Steel Co. for 22 years, until the company closed. Following a course in trucking, he became a driver for Waste Management until retiring because of his health. Tony was active in Boy Scouts of America. On Feb. 12, 1967, as a member of Troop 228, sponsored by Christ Methodist Church in Bethel Park, Pa., Tony advanced to Scouting's highest honor, Eagle Scout. He also enjoyed participation in motorcycling, softball, racket ball, tennis and golf and was a member of the Last Chance Bowling League. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, holding a season ticket for many years. Special arrangements were made for him to attend the last game of the season and to observe the implosion of the Three Rivers Stadium where he had spent so many happy hours with friends.

Survivors include his parents, W. Dean and Mary of Hopkinton; four brothers and their families, Michael of Hopkinton, Jeffrey (Laurie), Timothy and Brian of Marion, Gregory (Caron), Rebecca, Madelene, Mark and Brent of Laguna Hills, Calif., and Bradley (Kyoung Hui), Devin and Daniel of Ames; an uncle, Omer (Florence) Heim of Hot Springs, Ark.; four aunts, Effie Heim, Viola Hill and Ina Mae Gardalen, all of Dows, and Bonnie Azeltine Verhousky of Lake Tahoe, Calif.; and several cousins and friends. Tony was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred and Maude Pollard Heim and Wesley and Garnet Bamford Azeltine; step-grandmother Anna Azeltine; and uncles Lester Heim, Francis Hill, Donald Gardalen and Robert Azeltine.

Tony had a wonderful, dry wit. He was a gentleman and a gentle man who will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
