MANLY, IA - Darold August Nuehring, 70, died Thursday (July 2, 2009) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. A funeral service for Darold will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2009, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 428 W. Walnut, Manly, with Pastor Linda Johnson Prestholt officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with full military honors conducted by member of the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, and continue one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Darold A. Nuehring Memorial in care of Joyce Nuehring.

Darold August Nuehring was born on Dec. 29, 1938, in Belmond, the son of Rudolph A. and LaReta H. (Nolte) Nuehring. He attended country school Lincoln No.9 until the eighth grade. He attended Clear Lake High School until later enlisting in the United States Army , in which he finished his education. While in the Army he served during the Berlin Crisis; he later was honorably discharged. Darold was united in marriage to Joyce Koppen on Jan. 10, 1969, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua; to this union five children were born. Darold farmed for many years until going to work as a welder for Andrew's Prestressed Concrete, retiring in 1999. Darold enjoyed cooking, gardening, playing cards, rummage sales and auctions. He loved spending time socializing with his family and friends, especially his time with his grandchildren giving them lawn mower rides. Darold was a confirmed and longtime member of St. James Lutheran Church, Mason City, until later becoming a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Manly.

Darold is survived by his wife of 40 years, Joyce Nuehring, Manly; children, Mary Goeken, Manly, Mona (Jim) Pope, Mason City, Molly (David) Drenth, Rockwell, and Dan (Amber) Nuehring, Manly; grandchildren, Jamie and Trent Klunder, Luke Goeken, Marissa, Aaron and Tricia Pope, Ashley and Emily Drenth and Kinze Nuehring; siblings, Arthur Ressler, Phyllis (Darwin) Huffaker, Ronald Nuehring, Lowell (Linda) Nuehring; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Nuehring, Lois (Wendell) Lashley, Edwin Koppen, Marvin (Marilyn) Koppen: along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Darold is preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Barbara Ann Nuehring; and brother,Richard Nuehring. Bride Colonial Chapel.
