Dr. Dietrich R. Bieser, 93, died Tuesday, August 19, 2003, at Bethany Lutheran Village. Born August 16, 1910, he was the youngest son of Charles W. Bieser and Flora Gruen Bieser of Dayton and brother of Carl, Irvin and Horace Bieser, all of whom preceded him in death. He was graduated from Oakwood High School in 1928, Adelbert College of Case Western Reserve University in 1932, and from Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1937. He served his internship at Miami Valley Hospital in 1938 and his Residency in Internal Medicine with Dr. A. B. Brower and Dr. Tom Sharkey in 1939. In July, 1939, he started his own general practice, as Oakwood's first physician, in a rented duplex at the corner of Dell Park and Far Hills Avenue, where he practiced until his military induction in April, 1944. Organized into the U.S., Army 120th Evacuation Hospital, he served in the European theater from December, 1944 to July 1945, where he was a part of the first medical unit into Buchenwald, the first of the Nazi concentration camps to be liberated by Patton's Third Army. Following his Army discharge in April, 1946, he returned to private practice in Oakwood, where he built the Oakwood Medical Arts Building in 1949, and where he continued to practice until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of the American Medical Association, Ohio State Medical Association, Montgomery County Medical Society, a Charter Member and Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice, a rounding member of the Ohio Academy of Family Practice, a Fellow of the American Geriatrics Society, and a rounding director of Hospice of Montgomery Countynty. He was also a member of. Alpha Sigma Phi medical fraternity, a Charter Member Of the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, and Charter Member of the Rod N Reel Club and the Oakwood Fur, Fin & Feather Club.

He was married April 14, 1939, to Marion Nelson of Goldfield, Iowa, who survives him. Other survivors include sons, Charles D. Bieser and wife, Nancy of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla; Dietrich N. Bieser of Tucson, Ariz.; and daughter, Marianne Longacre and husband, James of Marshall, Texas; five grandchildren, Christopher Taylor and wife, Amy, Charles Taylor and wife, Tiffany, Carrie, Nathanael and Joshua Longacre; three great-grandchildren, Hope, Nathan and Lauren Taylor.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the Luteran Church of Our Savior, Oakwood. There will be a private burial. Memorial contributions may be made to Miami Valley Hospital Foundation 1890 Society, 30 Wyoming St. Dayton, OH 45409,
