William C. Becker died at the home of his son, Theodore F. at Hardy last Monday morning after having sustained a apoplectic stroke some days before. Deceased was a native of Hessen Germany, born in 1822. He came to America in 1853 locating in Erie County, New York. There occurred his marriage to Miss Anna C. Trueby. They removed to Iowa in 1865, locating at Independence, and here they resided until Mrs, Becker's death in 1901. Since that time Mr. Becker made his home with his son at Hardy. He was a member of the German Presbyterian Church and the remains were taken from Hardy to Independence where the funeral was held at ten o'clock Wednesday forenoon. Mr. Becker was employed at that place in the lumber yards about the Illinois central depot for twenty-eight years. He leaves three sons: Theodore F. and John W. of Hardy; Charles H. of Milwaukee, all of whom were present at the funeral.
