Debbi Lu Subject was born March 22, 1955, in Webster City, Iowa, to Dale and Betty (Hilpipre) Parker. She graduated from Fort Dodge High School. Debbi married Tim Westre and the couple lived in Chicago where Debbi worked at K-Mart. Tim was tragically killed in an automobile accident in 1975. Shortly there after the couple's son died in infancy. Debbi and Vern met in Eagle Grove and were united in marriage in Reno, Nevada on June 24, 1976. The couple lived in Oregon, Eagle Grove and Whittemore before moving to Algona in June 2006. Debbi owned and operated Deb’s Diner in Whittemore for 15 years. She had been working at Hy-Vee's kitchen for the last few years. Debbi enjoyed cooking, attending her son's sporting events, playing cards and board games, watching her favorite programs on television and enjoying ice cream treats from Dairy Queen. Her greatest enjoyment was being outside and spending time with her grandchildren.

Debbi died suddenly on Wednesday evening, March 4, 2009, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona at the age of 53. Survivors include her husband Vern of Algona; children, Tami Ellsworth and husband Damion of Seneca, Iowa, Rusti Subject and wife Sarah of Des Moines, Iowa, Tifani Bradford and husband Charlie of Algona, Robbi Subject at home. Also, mother Betty Hilpipre-Huffaker of Eagle Grove, step-son, Larry Subject and wife Pamela of Britt, Iowa, 11 grandchildren, Cody, Cole, Crystal, Coda, Dalton and Bryer Subject, Tyne and Hunter Ellsworth, Landen and Caden Subject, Dylan Bradford, and one great grandson, Jacoby Subject. Surviving brothers and sisters are, Kathy Ward and husband Bill of Baker City, Oregon, Becky Arnold and husband Perry of Webster City, Iowa, Dale Parker and wife Sheryl of Des Moines, Iowa, Robyn Schaumburg and husband Ron of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Dean Huffaker and wife Christine of Goldfield, Iowa and Ed Parker and wife Monica of Whittemore, and former mother-in-law, Pauline Westre of Cairo, New York. Debbi was preceded in death by her father Dale Parker, her first husband Timothy Westre, her son Timmy Westre and brother Kenneth Parker.
