Marie Tillman, 89, of Klamath Falls, Klamath County, died July 9, 2000 of causes related to age. She was born to James and Blanche Breckenridge Dickson on February 3,1911 and was raised on the family farm in Clarion, Iowa. She graduated from high school in Clarion. She moved to Klamath Falls to be with her brother and met Eldon Tillman. They married on September 19, 1930 in Vancouver, Washington. She graduated from the former Southern Oregon Normal School with an education certificate in 1932, her bachelor of science degree in 1957, and her master's degree in 1966. She was a substitute teacher from 1932 until 1951. In 1951, she taught full time at Altamont School. She taught two years of fifth grade and the remainder of the time taught second grade. When Stearns School opened, she taught first and second grades at that facility until she retired in 1977. She spent summers traveling and spending time at her summer home in Yachats. She traveled to Europe, Hawaii and Canada. She enjoyed landscape painting in oil, camping on the North Umpqua River and teaching her children how to fly fish. She was a skilled seamstress, wrote poetry and built with wood from her house to furniture. She enjoyed reading historical novels and mysteries. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Aloha Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Degree of Honor. She held numerous offices in that organization. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Community Concert Association since 1943. She was a member of the First Presybterian Church.

Survivors include children Eldonna Clark of Klamath Falls and Diane and John Hankins of Astoria; a daughter-in-law, June Tillman of Vail, Arizona; a sister, Eva Dickson, of Klamath Falls; grandchildren and spouses Robert Clark, Howard Clark, and Jonna and Jerry Briman, all of Klamath Falls, Brian and Betsy Clark of Honolulu, Hawaii, Gene Hankins of Astoria, Jeffery Hankins of Everett, Washington, Travis Hankins of Portland, Tony and Linda Tillman of Sierra Vista, Arizona; and Tara and Dennis Epperson of Vail, Arizona. She was preceded in death by husband, Eldon Tillman; a son, Robert Tillman; a sister, Elsie Pease; and a brother, Arthur "Malor" Raymond Dickson.

Services took place July 15, in Klamath Falls, with private burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are welcome to the First Presbyterian Church Endowment Fund, Sixth and Pine streets, Klamath Falls. O'Hair and Riggs Funeral Chapel in Klamath Falls is serving the family.
