JAMES STUART STRINGFELLOW

Funeral services for J. S. STRINGFELLOW, long time resident of Oakdale who died in a Norfolk hospital Friday, were held Tuesday afternoon in the Methodist church with Rev. Walter JEWETT of Norfolk in charge and Rev. L. A. REGER assisting. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery. James Stuart STRINGFELLOW was born in Jackson, Ohio, September 16, 1849. After 56 years of residence in Oakdale and near vicinity, he received his Heavenly Crown on July 12, 1940, at the age of ninety years, ten months and twenty-six days. Born on a farm, he remained a farmer through most of his active life, though he knew some experience, first as a brakeman on the railroad when a young man in Ohio, and later as a purchaser and shipper of livestock and a dealer in hardware and farm implements in Oakdale. His first visit to Nebraska was in 1877, when he came to purchase land. Seven years later in 1884, he and his family moved to Nebraska and took up residence on the farm in Antelope county, east of Oakdale. Some years later residence was on the farm closer to Oakdale, and known as "The Fairchild’s Place." He moved to Oakdale in 1901, where he first participated in business and later lived in active retirement. He was a charter member of Oakdale Lodge of Odd Fellows, No. 113 and also a member of Oakdale Lodge of Rebekahs No. 99. He was a member to the town board, Oakdale school board and cemetery association and for some years has been a director of the local bank. While still in Ohio he was married to Eliza Ann HUGHES, January 1, 1873, with whom he lived for 39 years until her passing, October 2, 1912. To this union eleven children were born, all growing to maturity except LeNora Merle STRINGFELLOW, who died in infancy. Other children preceding him in death, William Franklin STRINGFELLOW, Charles DeWitt STRINGFELLOW and John Irving STRINGFELLOW. Those surviving are: Mrs. Jennie Alice CUNNINGHAM of Oakdale, Charles Everett STRINGFELLOW of Vancouver, Washington, Mrs. Laura Ellen ROBERTS of Neligh, Mrs. Nannette Viola WIEST of Mason City, Iowa, Austin James STRINGFELLOW of Oroville, California, LeRoy Walter STRINGFELLOW, Haverhill, Mass., Mrs. Edna Blanche ROSE of Ojai, California. On July 7, 1926, He was married to Mrs Ester ROSAMOND-BEER of Petersburg, who survives him. His stepchildren are: Mrs Vera EVANS of Oakdale; Mrs Murl ADAMS of Neligh and Raymond BEER of Crosby, Missouri.
