September 4, 2002Newman A. Tesdahl, 82, of Austin, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, at his home. He was born July 5, 1920, in Clarion, Iowa, to John and Nellie (Shurson) Tesdahl. On April 22, 1940, he married Velma Loux. She died in 1974. He later married Myrtle Miller. Newman was a retired employee of Hormel Foods after 40 years of employment. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed fishing, dancing and watching the Minnesota Twins.
Survivors include wife, Myrtle Tesdahl, Austin; sons, Robert and Dorothy Tesdahl, Marion, Iowa; Randy and Peg Tesdahl, St. Francis; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nine stepchildren, Don Miller, Austin; Gary and Terri Miller, Rockwell, Iowa; Bill and Lynn Miller, Austin; Diane and John LaRocco, Tacoma, Wash.; Debbie and Toby Adams, Portland, Ore.; John Miller, Mankato; David and Linda Miller, Austin; Steve Miller, Austin; Brad Miller, Austin; 17 step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; sister, Edith Sayers, Boulder, Colo.; sisters in-law, Peg Stuhr, Austin; Kathy and Dale Guttormson, Austin. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter; sisters, Alma Christenson, Ruth Skogeboe, June Hanson, Dena Hanson and Gladys Sharp.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, with a 6:30 p.m. wake service at the funeral home and Friday at the church for one hour before the service. There will be no reviewal. Service: 1:30 p.m. memorial mass, Friday, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Paul Nelson officiating. Interment: Grandview Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post #91. Funeral Home: Mayer Funeral Home, Austin.
