MRS. ED BARNES

Susan Richardson Barnes was born July 16, 1874, on a farm eight miles south of Clarion to Albert and Mary Richardson, the third of a family of seven children. On February 21, 1900, she was united in marriage to Ed Barnes at the Methodist parsonage in Clarion in a double ceremony with her brother, Joseph. For 11 years the couple made their home on a farm near Storm Lake before moving back to Wright county. Twenty-six years ago they moved from the farm to their present home in Clarion where they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, Feb. 21, 1950. To this union there was born three daughters and a son; Mrs. Bessie State of Galt, Mrs. Mabel Schroeder of Dows, Mrs. Eleanor Woodley and Elden of Clarion. Preceding her in death were her parents and two brothers: Joseph of Long Beach, Calif., and Duane of Clarion. In addition to ber husband, Ed she is survived by her sisters, Miss Carrie Richardson, Mrs. Hattie Blankenship and Mrs. Ella Brooks; and her brother, Frank, all of Clarion. In addition to her husband, brother, sisters and children there are left to honor her memory 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, as well as a host of other relatives, friends, and neighbors.

Mrs. Barnes was a member of the Bethel church in Lincoln township. After moving to Clarion she united with the Church of Christ where she was a faithful and valued member until her death at her home last Wednesday morning, Sept. 12, at 7:20, at the age of 77 years and two months, having lived in Wright county for 66 years. Services were held Friday afternoon at the Clarion Church of Christ and were in charge of ministers Ray Steakley and Paul L. Stacy. Mrs. Grayce McClelland and Mrs. Verlene McOllough sang "Love Lifted Me" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus", accompanied by Juanita Richardson. Interment was in local cemetery.
