Glenn L. Werstein, 9581 170th St., Swaledale, IA, died Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at his home. A Memorial service will be held Friday, May 7, 10:00 AM at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Mark Young officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home. According to his wishes, following the visitation, his body will be cremated. Memorials may be given to the Glenn L. Werstein Memorial Fund.
Glenn was born February 15, 1941, in Belmond, IA, the son of Anton and Emma (Robb) Werstein. He attended Ventura High School. Glenn served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Kitty Hawk. Following the service he worked construction in Clear Lake. Glenn married Patricia Drake Sept. 30, 1966 at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. He then worked for Secory’s Plumbing and Heating from 1969 – 74. Then he went to work Lehigh Portland Cement Co. until retiring in 2003. Glenn and Pat moved from Clear Lake to their current home in 1975, which they built. Glenn enjoyed camping, tinkering on machinery, building his house, boating on Clear Lake, grilling and his retirement. He loved taking his family on Sunday drives. Glenn is survived by his wife Pat Werstein, Swaledale, IA, two children Dan Werstein, Swaledale, IA and Angie Mirecki and her husband Louis, Los Angeles, CA; two brothers Donald Werstein and his wife Joanne, Clear Lake, IA and Richard Werstein and his wife Phyllis, Lawton, OK; and several nieces and nephews. Glenn is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Lyle. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, IA 50428.
