Dean R. Murrell, 52, of 826 8th St., N.E., Mason City, Iowa died Saturday May 29, 2004 at his home. Memorial services will be Thursday June 3, 2004 11:00a.m. at Church of Christ, 710 N. Kentucky, Mason City, Iowa with Rev. Alan Sheldon officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa with military honors. Visitation with viewing will be Wednesday from 4:00-8:00p.m. at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E. Mason City, Iowa. Family suggests memorials to Dean R. Murrell memorial fund.
Dean was born June 6, 1952 in Nevada, Iowa the son of Edson and Hazel (Haukoos) Murrell. He graduated from Nesco High School in 1970 and then attended DMACC Community College, Ankeny, Iowa. In 1970 he joined the Iowa National Guard and was a member of the Boone Unit. He later became a full time mechanic for the unit and in early 80’s transferred to the 1133rd unit as a mechanic. He served with the unit during Desert Storm and retired after serving for 23 years. Dean married Vicki Zeigler March 15, 1983. Following his retirement from the guard he continued his education on at University of Northern Iowa and obtained a degree in education. He has taught industrial Technology for the past three years in the Belmond-Klemme High School. Dean enjoyed doing carpenter work, building and fixing things at his church. He was known for the grin on his face and his contagious laugh. He was a member of the Church of Christ, Mason City.
Dean will be sadly missed by his two children; Michael and Melissa Murrell, Mason City, Iowa; former wife Vicki Murrell, Mason City, Iowa; six brothers and sisters, Mildred Ely and her husband Bud, Ames, Iowa, Roger Murrell and his wife Donna, Unionville, Missouri, Judy Vigness and her husband Stan, McCallsburg, Iowa, Marcia Berrett, and her husband Norm, Kelley, Iowa, Jerry Murrell, Zearing, Iowa and Deb Greene and her friend Roger Uglem, Plymouth, Minnesota and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E., Mason City, Iowa.
