Emil G. Valasek, 79, of Osage, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001 of complications due to diabetes, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Hospice Unit in Osage. Funeral services were held Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment was at the Osage Cemetery. Emil was born June 7, 1922 in Alexander, IA, the son of Anton and Appolena (Smysik) Valasek. He moved with his parents to Mitchell County as a youth. Emil was united in marriage to Janele Bayliss of Belmond on August 11, 1960. They lived and farmed north of Osage. To this union were born three children. He farmed; worked at Decker Meat Packing in Mason City; and worked at Oliver Corporation in Charles City. He was a lifetime member of the Bohemian Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and one half-sister. Survivors are his wife, Janele of Osage; two daughters, Lori Valasek of Osage, Denise Valasek of Osage and her children, Brittany and Brayden; a son and daughter-in-law, Russ and Kathy Valasek of McIntire and two step-children, Ashley and Amanda; one sister; and two brothers.
