George E. Jenison, 85, a lifelong resident of Belmond, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at the Belmond Health Care Center. George was a resident at the care center as a result of complications of Alzheimer's Disease. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Belmond with Pastor Michael Druhl officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at the Belmond Cemetery.

George was born July 6, 1916, at his parent's farm near Belmond in Pleasant Township, the son of Earl Joseph and Hazel (Sandberg) Jenison. He attended District Four Rural School and graduated from Belmond High school in 1934. George served in the United States Air Force during World War II, as a gunner on a Black Widow aircraft. His first wife, Margaret Baxter, died in 1972. He married Agnes Jansen on June 26, 1976, at the United Methodist Church in Blairsburg. They made their home in Belmond. George had been a lifelong employee of the United States Postal Service as an office worker, a postmaster, and concluded his career as a rural Belmond mail carrier. In earlier years he had helped out on the family farm. He had been an avid motorcyclist and his wives had enjoyed touring with him on his cycles. He also collected postal stamps. He and Agnes wintered in Harlingen, TX, where they square danced, ballroom danced, and also were reading tutors for local students during their time in Texas. George was a member of the United Methodist Church in Belmond, a past member of the Masons and VFW Post. He was a longtime member of the Belmond Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Iowa Firemen's Association.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Earl and Hazel (Sandberg) Jenison; his two wives, Margaret in 1972 and Agnes in 1999; brothers, Arnold Jenison and Robert Jenison. Survivors are his son Tom Jenison of Pharr, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Bruce Johnson of Colorado; brother and sister-in-law, Leland and Norma Jeanne Jenison of Belmond; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Ardeth Laake of Belmond, and Elna and Gary Day of Mason City; three grandsons; one granddaughter; his step-son, Michael D. and Carla Holt of Iowa Falls and their children, Mikelle, Nicholas, and Jonathan; a step-daughter, Pamela and her husband Dennis Doolittle of Williams and their children Eric and Grant.
